Mar 19: Bertschi School, Seattle, WA — Speaking at the culminating event for their "Experience Book Project." (Brendan Buckley's Universe was chosen as the school-wide book for families to read and discuss during the school year.)

Oct 25: Speaking at Seattle Book Fest, Secret Garden KidStage, 11am-12pm with author Samantha R. Vamos on "Diverse Families, Diverse Books," with book signing to follow.
Oct 11: Speaking at Wordstock, in Portland at the Oregon Convention Center, Children's Stage, 2-3pm with thriller author April Henry.

November 5-6: Sacramento Public Library — Speaking to four branches in conjunction with the Smithsonian's traveling exhibit
Freedom's Sisters, which celebrates the lives of twenty African-American women, historic and living.
October 22: Guest speaker for the Cub Scouts' "Adventures in Reading" month.
October 18: Wisconsin Book Festival — Panelist with children's literature greats Fred and Patricia McKissack,
authors of over 100 books for young people, on writing for and about African-American and biracial children.
October 1, 14 and 16: Guest author at Children's Book Shop Open House — Burien, Puyallup and Kent, WA.
July 11: Appearing on NBC's TODAY Show as a guest of Al Roker and his kids' book club.
June 28-July 2: Attending the American Librarian Association's summer convention to receive the Coretta Scott King/John Steptoe
New Talent Award.
June 14: MIXED ROOTS Film and
Literary Festival appearance with Kim Wayans, 10-11:15 a.m. and panel discussion post-screening of film My People Are: Youth Pride in
Mixed Heritage, 11:15 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Additional reading, 2-5 p.m. Whether you are multiracial, in an interracial family, or just know
someone who is, come out and be moved by the art of mixed race people from around the country. The festival runs from June 12-14 and is being
held in Los Angeles at the Japanese American National Museum.
